COUNTRIES WHERE IT IS VALID

Currently, there are 46 countries included in the system. The Green Card system is fundamentally based on the existence of compulsory motor vehicle third-party liability insurance, and in principle, the system includes institutions known as motor vehicle bureaus that are recognized by the government of each participating country. These bureaus cover bodily injury or property damage caused by motor vehicles registered in another country based on international insurance certificates.

International insurance bureaus issue Green Card insurance for vehicles traveling outside their home country. The original card must be green, issued in two copies, without any erasures, and no information should be altered in any way. All Green Cards follow the same format, which has been approved by the relevant UN committee in accordance with the standard Green Card format endorsed by the UN.

Member 29 countries and Switzerland form a regional union. Therefore, they are shown in a box on the printed Green Card. This means that if an insurer from a third country issuing the Green Card crosses out the international designation of one of the EEA member states, it is as if all have been crossed out, and the relevant vehicle must obtain border insurance upon entering one of the 29 EEA countries and Switzerland. This insurance will be valid in all EEA countries and Switzerland.
