GREENCARD CHECKS
Points to consider when foreign-plated vehicles enter our country:
-
Verify that the Green Card Insurance Certificate is valid in Turkey. For this, the TR (Turkey) acronym on the Green Card Insurance Certificate should be uncovered. If TR is uncovered, it is valid throughout Turkey, including both European and Asian sides. Any handwritten or otherwise added modifications to the Green Card are invalid.
-
The country bureau name on the Green Card Insurance Certificate should match the country code in the Green Card number. They should be from the same country.
-
The vehicle license plate, engine and chassis number, and insured name on the Green Card Insurance Certificate should match the details in the vehicle registration.
-
The country where the vehicle is registered should be the same as the country of the bureau listed on the Green Card Insurance Certificate. (For instance, a German vehicle's Green Card number should start with D, the international abbreviation for Germany.)
-
The validity period of the Green Card Insurance Certificate should cover the duration of the foreign-plated vehicle's visit to our country.
-
The registration details of the foreign-plated vehicle should match the information on the Green Card Insurance Certificate.
-
As per our country’s Compulsory Financial Liability (Traffic) Insurance regulations, trailers are not considered separate motor vehicles and are covered by the insurance of the towing vehicle. Therefore, for vehicles consisting of a towing vehicle and a trailer, the Green Card of the towing vehicle must be checked.
-
Although Montenegro is included in the Green Card system, its bureau will become operational in 2012. Currently, the Green Cards for vehicles registered in Montenegro are issued by the Serbian Bureau.
-
Greece started using electronic signatures on Green Cards as of November 2010. These Green Cards are valid.
-
Green Cards issued for vehicles belonging to the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in Kosovo are valid. Currently, these Green Cards are issued by the Slovenian insurance company Zavarovalnica TILIA. The validity of the Green Card can be checked by looking for the name EULEX in the insured section.
-
If the country code for Russia (RUS) is not listed among the country codes on the Green Card, that Green Card is invalid.
